Owosso Historical Commission Minutes
September 21, 2004 - 7:00pm
Meeting held at the Gould House.
Members present: Chairman Piper Brewer, City Treasurer Ron Tobey, and
members Joane Ford, Phil Heavilin, Marti Lameti, Jennifer Passow, Bonnie
Snyder and Samantha Stechschulte.
Chairman Brewer
called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Motion by Lameti to
accept minutes of August 17, 2004. Second by Heavilin. Approved.
Motion by Heavilin
to accept August 2004 Treasurer’s Report. Second by Snyder. Approved.
No one from the
Medieval Faire was in attendance to report. It was noted that a request
had been made to schedule a wedding in 2005 the first weekend in
August. Brewer will contact Ken McGhee to see if they are planning an
event that weekend.
Stechschulte
arrived 7:08 p.m.
Snyder reported
that only twenty-one tickets had been purchased for Saturday’s Bus Tour,
although inquiries have been made. Members also in Kiwanis and Rotary
will advertise at their meetings. Final preparations for the day were
made and a sign up sheet for work schedules circulated.
It was noted that
City Council approved a bid from Davenport Masonry, Inc. for repairs of
the Curwood Castle chimney. The bid for $10,584 is to require
completion before the end of October.
Ford questioned
Tobey as to any reports from John Archer concerning the roof and eaves
at the Gould House. It was noted in the August minutes that Archer had
been consulted before that meeting regarding the condition of the
building and the placement of bid proposals. There was no response to
report.
Mention was made
that council received a letter from Brewer recommending formation of a
citizen committee to propose suggestions for use of the Armory building
when vacated by the National Guard. Brewer will contact the City
Manager to determine the appropriateness of instituting the committee as
soon as possible.
Motion by Ford to
begin collecting a fifty percent commission for items sold at the Castle
not belonging to the Owosso Historical Commission. Second by Heavilin.
Approved. Tobey was directed to write a letter to the Shiawassee County
Historic Society and Ivan Conger informing them of the policy to be
effective October 1, 2004.
Brewer reported
that George Hoddy was receptive to the idea of a 100th
birthday party in his honor next March to be held at the Gould House.
Brewer reported
that engraved bricks from the fundraiser had been ordered. Sunburst
Gardens will reconfigure existing bricks and place the new bricks for a
cost of $250.00. It was noted that the Curwood Festival had not yet
placed the bricks that they had ordered. Motion by Heavilin to offer
the Festival the opportunity to have a dedicated portion of the circle
for their bricks with placement for $125.00. Second by Lameti.
