Owosso Historical Commission Minutes
March 15, 2005 - 7:00pm
Gould House
Members present: Chairman Piper Brewer, City Treasurer Ron Tobey, and
members Joane Ford, Marti Lameti, Phil Heavilin, Bonnie Snyder and
Charles Wascher.
Chairman Brewer
called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m.
Motion by Ford to
accept minutes of February 15, 2005, supported by Wascher and approved.
Motion by Heavilin
to accept the February 2005 Treasurer’s Report, supported by Snyder and
carried.
2008 Book
discussions were postponed due to the absence of Ellenberg.
Snyder reported on
progress for Home Tour plans for September 24, 2005. Although contracts
have not been signed, five homeowners have confirmed and four are
tentative. An e-mail notice will be distributed concerning a special
meeting for the home tour.
A discussion was
held concerning the repair proposal for the Gould House project. Jed
Dingens, architect and former member, and John Archer, city building
official, have been in discussion concerning the submitted bids.
Heavilin moved approval of the D.N.West bid for Gould House repairs,
pending Dingens' final confirmation after discussions with the company.
Second by Lameti and approved. If approval is forthcoming, it is
expected to be presented to Council at the April 4th meeting.
The Gould House
will be open to the public on Sunday afternoons from 1-5 p.m. the last Sunday in May through September. The Potpourri Herb Guild has
already expressed interest in staffing on the fourth Sunday of the
month. Owosso Musicale, Preservation Owosso and the Garden Club will be
contacted to determine their continued interest in staffing.
Brewer reported
that Tim Richardson will be presenting a lecture on bears at 1:30 p.m.,
April 17, 2005, at Curwood Castle. The hour long presentation will be geared to adults and middle-high
school age audiences, followed by a question and answer period. He will
specifically speak about subjects in Curwood’s writings.
It was noted that
the leak on the fireplace wall at Curwood
Castle was continuing. Dingens will meet with Davenport Masonry in April to
determine if it is due to repairs made by that firm. It so, they will
repair without charge. Lameti suggested that, if unrelated, an estimate
for repair be obtained while
Davenport was in the building.
Brewer displayed
prints of original Curwood photographs of himself, his home and the
Curwood Castle. It was suggested that a display might be prepared for the Castle.
Adjournment at 7:49
p.m.
Respectfully
submitted,
Ronald J. Tobey, Secretary/Treasurer
