Members present: Chairman Piper Brewer, City Treasurer Ron Tobey, and
members Lance Ellenberg, Marti Lameti, Phil Heavilin, Jennifer Passow,
Charles Wascher and commission member designate, Gary Wilson.
Chairman Brewer
called the meeting to order on the front lawn at 7:05 p.m. Members were allowed to view suggested shingle samples for use on the
Gould House.
Motion by Heavilin
to use Certainteed brand New England Slate Look shingle and to have D.N.
West paint dormers for an additional $500.00. Support by Lameti and
approved. It was noted that this shingle selection will result in a
$200.00 savings, so that the painting cost will be $300.00 over the
awarded bid price.
Commission members
resumed the business meeting indoors at 7:22.
Motion by Lameti to
approve and place on file minutes of March 15, 2005; supported by
Heavilin and approved.
Motion by Ellenberg
to accept the March 2005 Treasurer’s Report; supported by Heavilin and
carried.
A discussion was
held concerning fundraising and the possibility of an auction to sell
accumulated items as a fundraiser. Motion by Heavilin to make contacts
toward having an auction toward the end of June. Supported by Lameti
and approved. Piper will consult with an auctioneer.
It was noted that
the Tim Richardson presentation at the Castle April 17th was
not well attended, although it was an excellent program. It was
reported that Richardson noted that James Oliver Curwood is still very
well respected in the Conservation movement and will probably be more
remembered for his work in that area above his work as an author.
Discussion was held
concerning the 2008 Book. Ellenberg reported a variety of subjects
on which the book could focus. Consensus was that a committee would
best serve to suggest direction and work on implementation. The idea of
a compilation of pictures and history of homes that have been on the
home tour was well received. It was suggested that pictures be obtained
of the home in the past to compare with a contemporary picture. Passow
volunteered to compile items to be included to prepare them for
publication.
Brewer reported
that Curwood Castle T-shirts had been ordered for a cost of $5.00 each.
In the absence of
Snyder, Brewer reported that Home Tour contracts would be sent out next
week. A listing of committees was passed around with notification of an
organizational meeting to follow in early May.
Groups have been
scheduled to staff the Gould House on Sunday afternoons during the
summer beginning May 15th.
Brewer will contact
Sunburst Gardens to place approximately fifteen bricks purchased last year. They will be
placed next to previously placed bricks. A redesign of the placement of
bricks will be delayed.
Ellenberg and
others brought the electric organ donated by George Hoddy to the
Castle. It was noted that it needed to be cleaned and that Mr. Hoddy
had requested a plaque in memory of Lois Hoddy be placed on the organ.
Heavilin reported
concerning his attendance at the Michigan Historic Preservation
Conference. Wilson was also in attendance. Both were favorably
impressed and received pertinent information regarding the change in
construction methods and materials over the years.
Adjournment at 8:41
p.m.
Respectfully
submitted,
Ronald J. Tobey, Secretary/Treasurer
