Owosso Historical Commission Minutes

August 16, 2005 - 7:00pm
Gould House

Members present: Chairman Piper Brewer, City Treasurer Ron Tobey, and members Lance Ellenberg, Marti Lameti, Phil Heavilin, Bonnie Snyder, Charles Wascher and Gary Wilson.

Chairman Brewer called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.

Motion by Heavilin to approve and place on file minutes of July 19, 2005; supported by Ellenberg and carried.

Motion by Heavilin to accept the June 2005 Treasurer’s Report; supported by Lameti and carried.   Motion by Wascher to accept the July 2005 Treasurer’s Report; supported by Wilson and carried.

Snyder reported on Home Tour progress.  Tickets have been printed and were reviewed by members.  It was noted that additional hosts/hostesses were needed for the homes on the day of the tour.  Members reported much interest has been generated for this year’s tour.

Motion by Wascher to invest money from recently matured CD into a three month Certificate of Deposit.  Support was given by Lameti and motion carried.

Motion by Heavilin to provide Corky Adams (Abiding in the Vine) with a key to the Gould House and to offer the same agreement that had been given to Karen Friday for Teas; $2.00 fee for events 25 persons or under,  and a separate lease contract by someone booking a party for more than 25 persons.  Motion supported by Lameti and carried.

Upon recommendation from Dingens, final payment to D.N. West continues to be held due to workmanship on the front steps and damage to the lawn.  It was noted that opened but unused paint had not been turned over per contract.

A general discussion took place concerning the contents of the carriage house.  It was decided to set May 6, 2006, as a yard sale date for items to be sold.

Brewer presented a proposal by the Shiawassee Arts Council to use the Paymaster building for classes on silversmithing and the making of high-end jewelry.  The proposal would allow for all costs associated for upgrades and maintenance to the building to be assumed by the SAC and for either party to reevaluate the agreement at a future date.  It was noted that the SAC would need to present the proposal to Owosso City Council for approval.   Motion by Ellenberg to support SAC’s use of the Paymaster building for a period of one year.  Supported by Snyder and carried.

Motion made by Lameti to authorize Barry’s Lawncare to trim shrubs behind the Gould House for $45.00, to repair lawn damage resulting from roof repair for $125.00, and to rebuild a retaining wall from the Gould House to the Carriage house for $200.00 or less.  Supported by Snyder and carried.

Adjournment at 8:45 p.m., following motion by Heavilin supported by Ellenberg.

Respectfully submitted,
Ronald J. Tobey, Secretary/ Treasurer
