Owosso Historical Commission Minutes
September 20, 2005 - 7:00pm
Gould House
Members present: Chairman Piper Brewer, City Treasurer Ron Tobey, and
members Joane Ford Marti Lameti, Phil Heavilin, Bonnie Snyder and
Charles Wascher.
Chairman Brewer
called the meeting to order at 7:07 p.m.
Motion by Heavilin to accept and place on file minutes of August 16, 2005;
supported by Lameti and carried.
Motion by Heavilin
to accept the August 2005 Treasurer’s Report; supported by Snyder and
carried.
Ford arrived 7:10
p.m.
Snyder reported on
Home Tour final preparations. Several hosts/hostesses are needed to
cover a few shifts at several homes and members were encouraged to
solicit workers.
Brewer brought a
proposal letter from Tim Richardson, a Washington D.C. environmental lobbyist
originally from Chesaning. Mr. Richardson presented a lecture at the
Castle earlier this year. Richardson proposes to contract for services
as a fundraiser/grant writer for projects to restore and maintain the
Castle and programs there. His fee would be twenty percent of obtained
funds payable in phases. He proposes to begin in December and is
positive through initial research that funding is available if pursued.
Richardson maintains that Curwood is and will be most remembered for his
conservation work efforts, above his writing, and environmental arenas
will be the source of funding. Motion by Heavilin to recommend City
Council pursue fundraising contract opportunity with Tim Richardson.
Support by Lameti and approved.
Lameti reported
that Advanced Placement Art Class at Owosso
High School is required to hold an art exhibit as part of course requirements. She
proposed that students would again decorate the Castle for the holiday
season for the opportunity to hold a one-day exhibit at the Castle in
May of 2006. Members offered general agreement that this was
acceptable.
Adjournment at 8:07
p.m., following motion by Heavilin; supported by Lameti.
Respectfully
submitted,
Ronald J. Tobey, Secretary/ Treasurer
