M-71(Washington Street) rebuilding project in Owosso entering next phase Oct. 24
DAVISON, Mich. -The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin the next stage of a $7.6 million project to rebuild M-71(Washington Street) from Corunna Avenue to M-21 in Owosso.
Starting Friday, Oct. 24, crews will begin the M-71 (Water Street) phase of the project, between M-21 and Washington Street. Crews will reopen the Jerome Avenue/Washington Street/Water Street intersection to allow eastbound traffic to flow through to Washington Street and Jerome Avenue. Work will then begin on the north side of M-71 (Water Street) with the westbound lanes closed and detoured. Eastbound traffic will not be detoured.
Westbound traffic will be detoured via Washington Street and M-21. The Ball Street and Comstock Street intersections at M-71 (Water Street) will be closed during milling and paving.
This phase includes milling, asphalt work and roadway rebuilding, including water main, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, curb and gutter, sidewalk, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant ramps, signal modernization and pavement markings. The M-71 bridge over the Shiawassee River will also be improved. Overall work is expected to be complete at the end of November.
